How to Make Christmas Special

Chad Haygood

As you prepare your heart and your family for Christmas, how can you make it special? I am sure that you, like me, want to focus your family's attention on Christ. Thankfully, we're not left without help. In a video from Desiring God, John Piper offers some advice on how to make this Christmas Special. Here are three points:

1. Try to show your family that Christianity is news.

2. Carve out regular times for special activities.

3. Outdo the mythologies of the world by showing that Jesus is 10,000 times more generous and joyful than Santa Claus.

The Blessing of Friends

At the very end of 2 Timothy, some of the final words that we have from the Apostle Paul before he passed into eternity, we see a surprising desire from Paul. Maybe it shouldn't be that surprising but coming from the tough, Christ-dependent, ready-for-eternity Paul it does come across somewhat surprising. What's one of his desires? He wants a friend. Isn't that remarkable? At the end of his life, as he faces unspeakable circumstances, Paul wants what you and I would want, a friend.

Prepare for Preaching

Toward the end of his letter to Timothy, the final letter we have from the Apostle Paul in Scripture, we read this charge from Paul to Timothy, "I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching."

A Gift in Words

Chad Haygood

We’ve entered the season of gift-giving and gift receiving. To be honest, I love this season. I love giving gifts, especially to my family and if I’m really honest I enjoy receiving gifts too. As we’ve been making our way through 2 Timothy I’ve given quite a bit of thought about the gift of our Savior as well as the gift God has given us in His Word, the Bible.
