Free Advent eBook

Chad Haygood

Church family, as promised here is the free Advent eBook from Desiring God. Go here and visit the website. If you will scroll down you will see where you can download the free book. This book should be a great encouragment to you this season.

The daily readings are taken from sermons and articles by John Piper. The readings begin today and each reading is only a couple of pages, so it should be great to read together as a family! Enjoy!

Does Raising Hands Matter?

Chad Haygood

So these people who raise their hands in worship, are they weird? Should we all be doing it? Why does Blake ask us to? What if I don't want to? I think those are all good questions. The last thing that we should do in worship is go through the motions, no matter how much or how little the motion is. We can't just do it for no reason.

Reading for Change

Chad Haygood

I love to read. Let me rephrase that, I REALLY love to read, perhaps to a fault. Opening a new book (and even better, finishing a book) is an exciting time for me. I love to read and gather new information and grow in understanding. Unfortunately for me, what often changes for me when I read a new book is not how I live, but how I talk. But is this how reading should change us? No! Reading should change the way that we live not just the way that we talk.

I'm a New Member

Chad Haygood

"I've been coming to this church for at least three weeks, I'm ready to start leading worship." I've never heard that said before, at least at our church, but if we're honest we know that those thoughts come easily. While those thoughts may seem bad what I see is a desire to serve and a longing to be intimately involved in the church. That's a GREAT thing!

Random Thoughts: Preaching and Children in Worship

Chad Haygood

There have been some great blogs going around the internet lately. They're so good that I certainly can't improve on them and the best thing I can do for you is point you to them. They're a little random, that is they address different issues, but if these encouragements were taken seriously, I trust our Sunday meeting would improve.

The first blog I want to introduce you to is written by Stephen Altrogge, who is a pastor at Sovereign Grace Church in Indiana, PA. He's written a great post on encouraging us to pray for our pastors to have unction. Why? Well, here's a tid-bit:

Because I'm Not John Piper

Chad Haygood

I am NOT John Piper. I'd like to be, but I'm not. To be honest, I'm really far from it. You know it, I know it, we all know it so let's just get it out there - you're preaching pastor is NOT John Piper.

Read the Bible!

Chad Haygood

The new year is right around the corner. Today, all of our attention is devoted to Christmas because in a little more than a week we'll be celebrating the birth of the Savior. But one week later, we know that we'll be beginning a new year. With a new year comes new goals, new resolutions, new commitments, and new hope.

Sharing the Gospel

Chad Haygood

At this past family meeting, we talked a lot about sharing the gospel. Admittedly, sharing the gospel isn't always perceived as a easy thing to do. It makes us nervous. When we're thinking about sharing the gospel our palms get sweaty, we put our heads own, and we begin to doubt. Questions pop into our heads like "Is this the right time?", "What will they think?", and "How can I bring it up?"

Taking Initiative

Chad Haygood

God has called all of His children to be His ambassadors. We are called to spread the message of His love and reconciliation to everyone. That includes our friends, neighbors, coworkers, and every one else God places in our lives.

The people God has surrounded us with are not there by accident. God has sovereignly arranged the relationships we have, the friendships we have cultivated, and the neighbors in our communities for a purpose - that we would be His ambassadors to them.

Are You a Missionary?

Chad Haygood

Here are some great questions for us all to consider. I've taken this quote and these question from the book Total Church by Tim Chester and Steve Timmis.

"Imagine [you] are part of a church planting team in a cross-cultural situation in some other part of the world:
