Refuel with the Word

Chad Haygood

Do we view reading and meditating on the Word of God as optional? We know that it is good for us, but if we go without it we'll be OK, right? This kind of thinking can lead to days/weeks without diving into the Scripture and finding the live-giving nourishment it provides.

Here is a quote from John Piper in his book When I don't Desire God:

Before, I really liked this site and today I LOVE it. As you will see it has an abundance of resources covering a wide range of topics. You'll find videos, articles, etc. that are written with theological conviction and practical wisdom. I know that it'll help you in some area of your life.

How Important is the Bible?

Chad Haygood

As we continue on our journey through the New Testament in small groups, one question that may perhaps linger in your mind is, "How Important is the Bible?" Or you may not struggle with this question but need to be reminded again of how important the Bible really is.

On another blog, I came across this video by John Piper. He gives us 5 ways to determine the importance something. Check the video out by following this LINK.

What is Christian Accountability?

Josh Reynolds

Mike Emlet over at the CCEF (Christian Counseling & Educational Foundation) has some interesting thoughts on Christian Accountability.  Much more than just helping believers refrain from sin, true accountability points us to all the "one another" commands in Scripture and ultimately to Jesus Christ.  Check it out:

Ten Questions for the New Year

Josh Reynolds

Don Whitney shares some good thoughts on beginning the new year:

The beginning of a new year is an ideal time to stop, look up, and get our bearings. To that end, here are some questions to ask prayerfully in the presence of God.

Get the Most Out of the Message

Chad Haygood

For a recent seminary class I had to read a book titled How to Speak/How to Listen. Although I can't completely endorse the book, the author made several intriguing points. One of the most compelling points made was that in our education we are rarely (if ever) taught how to listen. It's just assumed we'll learn the skill.

The church should be governed by the humble and gentle leadership of God called and qualified elders.

Matthew 28:18
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.

Revelation 19:16
On His robe and on His thigh He has a name written, King of kings and Lord of Lords

Ephesians 1:20-22

The Message of the Cross and the Local Church

Josh Reynolds

These days you can't have a new church website without having a "blog", so here goes my humble attempt at contributing to what I hope will be of some benefit to my fellow brothers and sisters in the Lord . As Pastor Chad has been preaching verse by verse through 1 Corinthians, I've been reading an excellent book by D.A. Carson titled, "The Cross and Christian Ministry: Leadership Lessons from 1 Corinthians." Here are some great thoughts Carson has on 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 which deals with the message of the cross, the foolishness of God vs. man's wisdom and the weakness of God vs.
