Prepare for Preaching

Chad Haygood

Toward the end of his letter to Timothy, the final letter we have from the Apostle Paul in Scripture, we read this charge from Paul to Timothy, "I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching."

A Gift in Words

Chad Haygood

We’ve entered the season of gift-giving and gift receiving. To be honest, I love this season. I love giving gifts, especially to my family and if I’m really honest I enjoy receiving gifts too. As we’ve been making our way through 2 Timothy I’ve given quite a bit of thought about the gift of our Savior as well as the gift God has given us in His Word, the Bible.

Reading Plans for 2013

Chad Haygood

We all know the importance of reading the Bible. If not, we should. Just like our body needs constant fuel from food and water so our soul needs constant nourishment from the Word of God. The Bible, as God's Word to us, is our source of instruction, encouragement, rebuke, and hope. No matter where we are or what stage of growth we're in, we desperately need the Word of God.

Read the Bible!

Chad Haygood

The new year is right around the corner. Today, all of our attention is devoted to Christmas because in a little more than a week we'll be celebrating the birth of the Savior. But one week later, we know that we'll be beginning a new year. With a new year comes new goals, new resolutions, new commitments, and new hope.

Why Believe the Bible?

Chad Haygood

Over the last few weeks of our study through the New Testament we have discovered verses in the Bible that are either omitted (Mark 7:16) or said to not be included in some of the earliest manuscripts (Mark 16:9-20). The obvious question that comes is, "How can we believe the Bible?" You may not have asked that question, but rest assured there are some who do or many who will.

Refuel with the Word

Chad Haygood

Do we view reading and meditating on the Word of God as optional? We know that it is good for us, but if we go without it we'll be OK, right? This kind of thinking can lead to days/weeks without diving into the Scripture and finding the live-giving nourishment it provides.

Here is a quote from John Piper in his book When I don't Desire God:

How Important is the Bible?

Chad Haygood

As we continue on our journey through the New Testament in small groups, one question that may perhaps linger in your mind is, "How Important is the Bible?" Or you may not struggle with this question but need to be reminded again of how important the Bible really is.

On another blog, I came across this video by John Piper. He gives us 5 ways to determine the importance something. Check the video out by following this LINK.
